Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy services may include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluation to identify strengths and areas of need
  • Consultation with other team members and educators in the development of an IEP or 504 plan
  • Development for specific skills needed to participate in a school environment
  • Modifications/ adaptations of classroom materials or the learning environment

Thera Fit has been providing school based therapy services to school systems in the state of Missouri since 2004. Our team has 107 combined years of experience, helping hundreds of kids each school year. Our staff collaborates with educators, parents, guardians, and other school professionals to problem solve and support each student individually.

Different Types of Therapy

Occupational Therapy

OT works to improve the areas of fine motor, visual motor, visual perception, self-care, eye-hand coordination, and sensory processing to improve function for participation with daily activities. Occupational therapists assist children in developing their strength, coordination, sensory processing, visual processing, and physical/motor skills to function at their highest level. Environmental adaptations and/or compensatory strategies are implemented as needed to improve a child's level of independence.

Occupational Therapy in a school setting may include:

  • Fine motor testing and treatment
  • Grasp/prehension and in-hand manipulation skill development
  • Visual motor and perceptual skill testing and treatment
  • Handwriting remediation and keyboarding skills
  • Reflex integration
  • Sensory processing assessment and treatment
  • Upper body strength and coordination
  • Self-care skills: feeding, dressing, grooming, and hygiene 

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy works to improve the areas of gross motor, strength, endurance, range of motion, mobility, and balance for safety, transfers, locomotion, and participation in play.  When necessary, physical therapists make recommendations for types of braces, walkers, seating and positioning, wheel chairs, and other mobility devices to assist the child to function at their highest level of safety and independence.

Physical Therapy in a school setting may include:

  • Gross motor testing and treatment
  • Pre-gait and gait training 
  • Mobility and locomotion assessment and treatment
  • Strength, endurance, and range of motion
  • Coordination and motor planning
  • Ball skills
  • Balance and postural control
  • Seating and positioning
  • Reflex integration to improve gross motor skills
  • Environmental adaptations when necessary

Speech Language Pathology

Speech Therapy works to improve communication for literacy and learning for success in the classroom. Speech Therapists assist children with language disabilities, voice impairments, stuttering, articulation, and swallowing. They address language disabilities, voice impairments, stuttering , articulation and swallowing impairments. Speech therapists also work with children that are hearing impaired or have cleft palates to produce words for clearer communication. Through speech therapy, children can understand more material in class.
